Introduction

Recognizing that there are different needs and interests amongst the various ethnicities in the increasingly culturally diverse Waitakere City in the Auckland region, Waitakere Ethnic Board (WEB) sees importance in the advocacy role it plays as a Community Partnering Agreement (CPA) partner to the Waitakere City Council (WCC).

The WEB is a fairly young organization being registered some five years ago. A Shared Work Program (SWP) has been jointly developed and implemented over the years with the WCC.

• The WEB is an established platform for ethnic communities
• The WEB aims to improve integration of urban migrant and refugee people
• The WEB promotes social well-being via creative social and networking events
• The WEB engages with government and local government officials in view to feedback information to its wider membership
• The WEB makes submissions on behalf of the diverse communities on well-being and policy matters
• The WEB collaborates with other organizations to provide solutions to common problems such as safety, health, employment, education

The WEB recognizes the 2006 census figures of 178 different ethnic groups with 34% of the total city population born overseas. The ethos of 'bringing cultures together' is a joint effort of WEB and its members.

WEB is an MoU Partner with Waitakere City Council and a Diversity Partner with the Race Relations Office

If you or your organisation represent an ethnic community group and you're based in Waitakere City, then we encourage you to join WEB - you can download the application form here (76K/PDF)...
